Impact of institutional programs on academic performance at FURG

The present study aims to evaluate the effect of the Programa Nacional de Assistência Estudantil [National Student Assistance Program] (PNAES) on the academic performance of beneficiary students at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (FURG). Information about the students was made available through the FURG student monitoring system, leading to the creation of a cohort of incoming students in 2013, who were monitored every semester until 2016. The methodology used was based on the Propensity Score Matching method with different estimators. After the comparison groups were created, the results indicated that the academic performance of university students who benefited from PNAES at FURG was 21% higher than those who did not benefit from the program.
