Abstract

Nesta revisão são apresentadas as idéias iniciais sobre apego ou ligação afetiva da criança a sua mãe. Em estudos sobre condições extremas de privação materna haviam sido verificados sérios distúrbios no desenvolvimento afetivo e cognitivo das crianças. Pesquisas posteriores questionaram se tais efeitos não poderiam ser causados por fatores diversos, como falta de estimulação física e social ou carência alimentar. Estudos experimentais com macacos contribuíram para uma melhor compreensão do problema por permitirem um maior controle das variáveis envolvidas. A partir de uma análise dos estudos atuais sobre reações da criança à separação da mãe em diferentes contextos e situações é discutida a conceituação de apego, suas funções e os fatores que influenciam seu desenvolvimento, enfatizando-se também a importância da interação entre companheiros no processo de socialização da criança. Para finalizar é apontada a relevância destas questões para uma reflexão crítica sobre as vantagens e desvantagens da educação de crianças em creche
