O texto procura demonstrar os fluidos limites entre conceitos como família, casa e trabalho. Analisa relatos de trabalhadoras autônomas, de classe baixa, em geral casadas e mães, que exercem atividades econômicas no domicílio como forma de enfrentar o cotidiano, juntamente com os demais membros do grupo familiar. Mostra que a moradia pode revelar-se não só um espaço de vida familiar, mas também espaço de trabalho, no qual se realizam atividades econômicas que podem representar ganhos adicionais e muitas vezes vitais para o grupo familiar.
