Author Guidelines

To submit a manuscript to Estudos em Avaliação Educacional, it is necessary to register in the Journal Publishing Platform of Fundação Carlos Chagas, creating username and password. The Norms for the presentation of manuscripts are available here. We also provide a template for manuscript formatting.

At the submission authors are required to provide: full name; institutional affiliation or last professional occupation; city, state and country of the institution; academic degree (graduate, specialist, Master/Master’s student, Doctor/Doctoral student); address, telephone number, cellphone number, main e-mail address and ORCiD. The author is also required to indicate how their name should appear in the publication and which e-mail address should be published in the article.

All authors should be registered in the Journal Publishing Platform, and if the manuscript has 4 or more authors, it is necessary to indicate the contribution of each one to its preparation at the end of the text.

The author submitting the article should write in the field “Comments for the editor” a paragraph with a maximum of 800 characters about the manuscript’s contribution to the field of educational evaluation.

Two versions of the manuscript must be uploaded: one in PDF format and another one in “.doc” or “.docx” format. Since Estudos em Avaliação Educacional adopts the double-blind peer review system, it is necessary that there is no information identifying authorship either in the text body, in footnotes, or in the properties of the PDF file.

The author should access the system, click on the link New submission and fill in the necessary information in 5 steps:

Step 1. Start submission. Mandatory fields: Submission language; Section; Submission checklist and Copyright notice. Comments for the editor are optional. Note: if the manuscript is available on a preprint server, the link to the published version should be entered in this commentary field.

Step 2. Uploading the manuscript: in this step, the manuscript in PDF format should be uploaded first. The PDF version is intended for the peer review process, with all tables, graphs, charts and figures in the position they are supposed to be published in the text and with no information that identifies authorship. Then, the COMPLETE manuscript should be uploaded in “.doc” or “.docx” format: this version must contain all information about authorship and affiliation, as well as all tables, graphs, charts and figures in their appropriate positions in the text.

Also, at this stage, the graphs, charts, tables and figures must be uploaded in open and editable files, separated, in Word or Excel format, and numbered with Arabic numerals.

Step 3. Inserting metadata. Inclusion of the article’s data, such as title, subtitle, abstract, coauthors, supporting agencies, if applicable, copyrights, languages, keywords and references cited in the text. Co-authors should be registered in the system as well.

At this stage, fill in authors’ biographies in up to 5 lines.

Step 4.  Confirming the submission: in this step, the author must click on “Finish submission”.

Step 5. Next Steps. At this last stage, notice is given that the submission has been completed

Estudos em Avaliação Educacional welcomes texts in Portuguese, Spanish, French and English for evaluation, in continuous stream, throughout the year.

The submission to Estudos em Avaliação Educacional must be exclusive, i.e., the texts cannot be sent to other journals simultaneously. If the manuscript is available on a preprint server, the link to the published version should be entered in the field “Comments for the editor” (Submission step 1).

Manuscripts must be unpublished, i.e., they cannot have been previously published with attribution of DOI (Document Object Identifier), ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) or ISBN (International Standard Book Number).

Each manuscript submitted to Estudos em Avaliação Educacional is submitted to plagiarism control software before it is forwarded to peer review. This procedure is meant to identify plagiarism and self-plagiarism. Plagiarism is defined as copying another’s intellectual work, be it the full work or a fragment thereof, without due credit to its author. Self-plagiarism is the partial or total reproduction of a work of one’s own authorship, which has been previously published, without due identification. Self-plagiarism situations have been recurrent when, for example, research reports, theses and/or dissertations and works presented at scientific events are published literally in the form of an article. In these cases, the journal will accept the manuscript on the condition that authorship work is carried out so as to reformulate the previous version, with clear mention of the original, previous work.

No new authors can be included after the article has been approved. All authors must be indicated at the submission. The same author can have up to two articles published in a year.

The ideas and opinions expressed in the published articles are the sole responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the journal’s opinion.

The journal reserves the right to make small formal changes in the text during the review process, respecting authors’ style and opinion.

The copyrights of the published works are the property of Estudos em Avaliação Educacional, which adopts the Creative Commons BY-NC license, of the “Non-Commercial Attribution” type.

Estudos em Avaliação Educacional allows and encourages the self-archiving and dissemination by its authors of the articles published by the journal in institutional or thematic repositories, blogs, personal websites, social networks, etc. For archiving and dissemination, it is necessary that the articles and other texts are published on the journal's website.

Other forms of publication of the work can only be carried out twelve months after its edition in this journal, with prior request to the Editorial Committee and with explicit indication of its source.

Research Ethics

The journal Estudos em Avaliação Educacional is committed to good scientific practice. Therefore, it follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding studies with human beings, informing authors and referees about conflicts of interest, peer review process, plagiarism and self-plagiarism and procedures for dealing with misconduct.

The ethical procedures established for scientific research must be reported whenever human beings are involved. Research participants’ anonymity must be guaranteed, except in cases where their identification has been allowed. Both the authorization and the restriction of subjects’ identification must be reported in a footnote in the text body. The same principle applies to the disclosure of images of people or institutions.

Conflicts of Interest

The article’s very submission implies that no conflict of interest exists, whether of a financial, commercial, political, academic or personal nature. If there are any potential conflicts of interest related to the research in or publication of the manuscript, the authors must report, in a footnote, their relationship with support agencies and with any commercial or political institutions. The authors must make it clear that the financial or material support received is clearly reported in the submitted manuscript.
